Together, my daughter and I own every GH ever written, some of them in multiple copies. They are one of our go-to rereads in times of trouble - much used at the moment. (I have to admit that St Mary's is also one of my go-to refuges. Sadly I haven't yet managed to persuade my daughter she would love them too...but I envy her when she finally discovers them.)
These Old Shades is one of my favourites though my absolute top of the list is The Reluctant Widow. I think it must have been one of the first I read. Probably best to avoid the film though.....
This was my first "grown up " novel, given to me at the age of twelve by my mother. I still have it today, and it started my love affair with the Regency period. I regularly re-read my Heyers and they are my go to for a dreary day. The gentle wit never fails to captivate me.
I loved this book, it was my first Heyer, and my first in the genre. I named my son, many years later, Justin for the Duke of Avon.

I reread this wonderful book last month for a Heyer book club. Just as good as 40 years. I love her style and especially the historical accuracy.
