I had two strokes in Septeber and October last year and lying in hospital found I COULD NOT READ. very scary. It came back after 4 days and I could read TP6 on kindle. But I have since found I sleep much better: the only positive to have come out of this experience. Very odd. My daughter sleeps badly and has made the best of it: she gets up, makes tea and curls up in large comfy armchair (brought especially as therapeutic indulgence) and does exquisite cross stitch. She has an entire large chest of drawers full of WIP ( works in progress) so is never short of things to get on with. She also is a shift worker, now known as the only member of herteam to Like doing the 11 to 7am shift. Doing switchboard at a hospital. Tea is wonderful for that 2am wakefulness

Jodi -

I do the same thing - no matter how tired I am, when I go to bed, I sleep for 2 hours and then am wide awake! I'm up for 3-4 hours then sleep another segment or two before giving it up completely! And yes, my mind never stops....

Oh how I love hearing that the things that plague us regular folks plague the talented as well. While insomnia absolutely sucks, and makes me sometimes want to throat punch my spouse for blissfully snoring by my side unaware of my misery, I do manage to get a lot of pondering and thinking done. Sometimes that's good and sometimes that's bad. I'm going to be completely selfish in this comment, and say that whatever helps with your brilliant books I am all for. I haven't been so enthusiastic about reading in years, so thank you for steering my back in.

Please don't knock your insomnia, this may be one source of your inspiration that the rest of us enjoy. On the other hand, without the insomnia, Max may never find her way out of a situation. On the other hand, perhaps that piece of cheese is putting you into the past, present and future of TP7. I will wake up early in the morning with the solution to a spreadsheet formula problem I have been worrying about. If it is working, don't fix it. Nevertheless you have my sympathy, sometimes it is difficult to live with ourselves.

I, too suffer from insomnia, often as much as four or five hours a night (then walk around like a zombie all day!) I have moderate sleep apnoia, (sp?) but can't use the CPAP machine as it cuts off my air supply. I pass the time by reading, or listening to Radio 4 Extra which often has a comedy on. If one of my favourites comes on, I settle down happily to listen to it - and usually get as far as the opening announcements before I fall fast asleep again!
