The Fate of the Sea Stag: Orkneyinga Murders by Lexie Conyngham
Book Review by Jodi Taylor
This is my favourite of the series so far. I read it in a day and am now impatiently awaiting the sixth book.
Lexie Conyngham’s Orkneyinga Murders series is set in 11th century Orkney – an unusual setting for murder mysteries but the premise works really well. The mysteries are first rate and, importantly, of their time. And because it’s written by Lexie Conyngham you can be assured the historical detail is meticulous and fascinating.
As always, I won’t say too much about the story – especially the ending – but the two protagonists, Ketil Gunnarson and his friend Sigrid – who does like to make life difficult for herself – really have their work cut out for them this time, working out who murdered whom and why, all set against a backdrop of mounting political tension for Earl Thorfinn of Orkney.
The series so far:
The books do follow on from each other but can easily be read as standalones. Pick one up and immerse yourself in the vivid history of Orkney.
