You’ll never guess what I’ve been up to this week. I’m in London, cat-sitting for the offspring. Which basically, is caring for Teddy, the delightful, charming, handsome cat with an eating disorder who wakes me up every morning by affectionately standing on my eyeballs and giving me to understand that NOW is the time for food.
Well – it’s one way to start the day, I suppose.
Cat feet-related ophthalmic issues aside, the official reason I’m here is to work on ‘the treatment ‘ for televising A Bachelor Establishment, which is hugely exciting and, to my delight, involves writing all over the production office walls. This is now an accepted thing, apparently, and definitely NOT vandalism. Who knew? I’m fully invested in this innovative new step towards the paperless office. Who needs paper when you can have four walls instead? I’ve had an exhilarating week exchanging such sentences as, ‘In that case, why doesn’t he just kill her? I would. In the book, I mean. Obviously. Not in real life, of course. Because that would be wrong.’
And I’ve had a meeting with my editor, the very long-suffering Frankie, during which many subjects were discussed – some of them book-related, many of them not – along with a marathon book-signing session at Forbidden Planet in Shaftesbury Avenue. I’ve been there before and it was lovely to see them all again. It’s a fabulous shop and the book section is amazing.
So all in all a busy week and with more ahead of me. The final edits for this year’s Christmas Story are on my desk as I write, together with the first edits for Bad Moon – the next Elizabeth Cage. Sadly, my visit is nearly over and I’ve really enjoyed it.
Although it will be nice to be able to open my eyes without eight kilos of cat standing on them.
The Battle of Waterloo: A Decisive Moment in European History
In “The Very First Damned Thing” by Jodi Taylor Dr Bairstow travels back to witness the Battle of Waterloo and convince the board that time travel is real.
The Battle of Waterloo, fought on June 18, 1815, near the town of Waterloo in present-day Belgium, stands as one of the most significant military engagements in European history. It marked the final showdown between the forces of Napoleon Bonaparte, the erstwhile Emperor of the French, and a coalition of European powers determined to halt his ambitions of conquest and restore stability to the continent. In this article, we delve into the events leading up to the Battle of Waterloo, its pivotal moments, and its lasting impact on European politics and society.

Thrilled that 'A Bachelor Establishment' will appear on TV. It was my first Jodi Taylor book and I loved it. When I checked out what else she had written, I discovered St. Mary's, and the rest, as we say, is history. I am a devoted fan and find Jodi an inspiration, being of a similar generation and an aspiring novelist. All hail Jodi!
so channelling your inner Mickey in Capt Farenden's office!!!!!!!!!!!
