Question: The first book of Elizabeth Cage was mostly a thriller conspiracy, and the second one is more supernatural paranormal. Why did you switch?
Jodi Taylor: Well, as usual, the story just got on top of me and I lost all control. So that happens quite often but it did occur to me as I embarked on the second book that if I wasn't careful it would be very episodic and it would be all the same thing, she would go somewhere, there would be some sort of supernatural, mysterious circumstance, which she would cure or put right or whatever, and that would be the end of it. So I wanted major themes running through the book. So her battle with Sorensen is one theme, the supernatural stuff that happens to her, is another theme. Iblis Melik's story is another theme as well. In the one that I'm writing at the moment, they talked about actually setting up a business and trying to make some money out of it. So they're moving in that direction at the moment with mixed results, I have to say.
