18. Entry from Judi Anderson
A Valentine’s poetry competition for lovers of history
The Taj Mahal
Oh, what a man was Shah Jahan,
Mughal Emperor of old.
Your love for Mumtaz , loving wife,
Is one that should be told.
Two other wives you also took,
Merely for political alliance.
Your love for Mumtaz - truth be told,
Was more than a mere dalliance.
And when she sadly passed away
Giving birth to her fourteenth child,
Your grief was great, your sorrow true
It almost drove you wild.
A mausoleum you made them build
In honour of your wife.
A stunning place - the Taj Mahal
To commemorate her life.
So here’s to you dear Shah Jahan,
A husband good and true.
A Mogul emperor of renown
And loving husband too.
