My main memory from reading it the first time was Boadicea. A few years later, with some ‘life events’ happening in between, it’s Guthrie. I had to stop reading it on the train - people tend to look askance at fellow passengers in tears. Great writing to leave the same person with such different memories.
What a gift is Christmas Present. Funny and poignant - how do you do it, Jodi? As a musician, these lines brought me glee: "I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and started all over again" and "I was as highly strung as a violin on steroids – which would be a cello, I suppose."
Finally! I've been reading the novels, not understanding some of the references to things that did not happen in them. Guthrie and Grey, their back story, their tragedy, and lovely Christmas moment.
I've finished re-reading "Christmas Present." Who knew that Bashford has an actual first name? (Tom!)
I love how this fits in the timeline of the series. What a gift! Loved this one. And, as always, thanks to Zara!
Jodi plays havoc with our emotions but she never leaves her people behind.
Yup! It is enormous fun to be an author and have the power to do that.
Such an important event in the overall plot. I'm glad I originally read it in the correct chronological order of the St. Mary's literature.

Happened to me on the bus listening to the audiobook. My glasses were fogged over from the humidity, I don't think anyone noticed. 😉

An exceedingly satisfying Christmas present.
I’d forgotten this story- so pleased to have reread it. Happy Christmas Major Guthrie.
